Below are descriptions of the in-class training and education services that LinkGard has provided.

Information Security Fundamentals for Managers

This course is geared towards senior and mid-level IT staff in governmental or corporate organizations. It will introduce students to topics such as risk management, security policies, security life-cycles, and other education and training services of importance to management.

Duration: 3 days.

ISO 17799 – Setting Up Your IT Security Program

This course will help you understand the ISO 17799 standard. It is designed for management interested in implementing the standard in their organization or finding out more about the standard.

Duration: 6 days.

Introduction to Perimeter Protection (Firewalls)

Theory of firewalls, covering the basics. We will go over various firewall technologies such as: packet filtering, application-layer firewall, stateful inspection, and VPN.

Duration: 3 days.

Introduction to Incident Response and Forensics

This hands-on system administration training course is geared towards system administrators and technical staff. This course will cover the essentials of responding to computer intrusions.

Duration: 3 days.

Linux Certification Training (LPI)

This course is designed to help system and network administrators in obtaining certification by the Linux Professional Institute (LPIC1 and LPIC2).

Duration: 24 days.

Course Outline:

  • Week 1: Introduction to Linux, GNU/UNIX Commands, Devices and Filesystems, Documentation, and System Administration.
  • Week 2: Installation and Package Management, Installation of Linux, The Boot Process, Kernel, Printing, The vi Editor, Shell Scripting and Programming, Networking Services, and Linux Security.
  • Week 3: Advanced Kernel, System Startup, Filesystem, Hardware, File and Service Sharing, System Customization and Automation, System Maintenance, and Troubleshooting.
  • Week 4: Networking Configuration, Mail and News, Network Client Management, DNS, Web Services, System Security, and Network Troubleshooting.

Securing Operating Systems

This course is designed for system administrators and security administrators who wish to familiarize themselves with the security infrastructure of Windows 2000, Windows XP, HP-UX, Solaris, AIX, FreeBSD, or Linux operating system. Participants have the option of choosing from one of seven operating systems to receive their training on.

Duration: 6 days.

Course Outline (for UNIX-based version):

  • Day 1: Introduction, UNIX history, security policies, and overview of standard UNIX security mechanisms.
  • Day 2: Authentication mechanisms: username/password, two-factor authentication, and encryption-based authentication. Introduction to cryptography.
  • Day 3: Forms of attacks: authentication, buffer overflows/memory, network-based, denial of service. Viruses, trojan horses, and rootkits.
  • Day 4: Administration tools: SSH, network scanners, vulnerability auditing tools, and monitoring tools.
  • Day 5: Protocol security: NFS, NIS, RPC, and NTP. Application security: Apache, FTP, Sendmail, and DNS. Integrity management. Backups.
  • Day 6: Logging and auditing. Incident response. Performing forensics on UNIX.

Secure Programming: Hacking 101

This exciting two-part software development training course is designed for novice to mid-level programmers. The first part of the course will go through various good security programming practices and common security errors. (input validation, buffer overflow, etc.) The second part of the course will focus on techniques employed by hackers to crack computer programs.

After completing the course programmers will be well positioned to write better code and avoid common pitfalls. They will even be able to provide some software development consulting to their peers.

Duration: 6 days.

Java Security Training

This five-day course is designed as introductory course that graduates into the advanced concepts and features of Java Security. It is specifically constructed to cover the most relevant and commonly used designs, techniques and constructs. Each lesson contains at least one handout; relevant sections contain hands-on labs.

Duration 5 days.

Course outline:

  • Day 1: Introduction to Computer and Network security. Intro to Java Security.
  • Day 2: Java 2 Security Architecture. Secure Class loading.
  • Day 3: Creating security policies. Enforcing security policies.
  • Day 4: Object security. Trust coverage.
  • Day 5: Cryptography. Network security.
